WhatsApp for guest communication: pros and cons

Updated 2026-10-16

WhatsApp is fast and personal, and it fills up. Use it beside the booking link, not instead of check-in and the guidebook.

Guests message WhatsApp because it feels quick. You answer because you are trying to be kind. After twenty stays your personal number is full of wifi questions that were already in the guidebook.

An optional WhatsApp channel helps when something is happening now: “we are at the wrong door”. It is a poor home for house rules. Those belong on the link so the next guest finds them too. See stop repeat questions.

Do not keep codes only in a chat history. Do not make the team borrow each other’s phones. Scheduled facts stay scheduled, as in automate guest messaging. Turn the channel on because you want it, not because one guest insists.

Questions on this topic

Is WhatsApp required?

No. It is optional. The private booking link works without WhatsApp.

Should the access code live only in WhatsApp?

No. Put the code in the portal at the agreed time. WhatsApp can be a nudge, not the archive.
